Amazon FNSKU Labeling Services for FBA Sellers

Your FNSKU is Amazon’s barcode for your inventory, not your UPC. One unscannable or miscovered label can flag a unit at receiving. Amazon no longer handles labeling in-house. 3PL USA prints, applies, and scan-verifies FNSKU labels to Amazon’s specs. This helps your shipments clear receiving without delays.

What Is an FNSKU?

FNSKU stands for Fulfillment Network Stock Keeping Unit. It is the unique barcode Amazon assigns to your seller account for each product. Unlike a UPC or EAN, which can be used by multiple sellers, an FNSKU helps Amazon identify exactly which seller’s inventory a unit belongs to.

Amazon fulfillment centers scan the FNSKU to identify and track your inventory during the fulfillment process. Proper FNSKU labeling is important because the correct barcode needs to be clearly placed and scannable before your products are sent to Amazon.

Amazon usually requires FNSKU labeling for products that aren’t in new condition, have an end date, or fall into certain restricted categories. This requirement can apply even when a UPC is already printed on the product packaging.

WHERE SELLERS GET THIS WRONG

Common FNSKU Labeling Mistakes

Small labeling mistakes can cause scan failures, inventory mismatches, and receiving issues. We help catch these problems before your FBA inventory ships.

Printing on inkjet instead of thermal. Inkjet output can smudge or fade quickly and may produce labels below Amazon’s 300 DPI requirement, increasing the risk of failed scans during receiving.

Leaving part of the original barcode visible. If multiple barcodes are visible on one unit, Amazon’s scanner may read the wrong barcode and create inventory mismatches or seller-stock identification issues.

Placing labels on curved or seamed surfaces. Labels placed around bottle necks, box corners, seams, or other uneven surfaces may not scan correctly even when the barcode itself is printed properly.

Skipping the scan test. A label may look correct but still fail to scan because of contrast, glare, print quality, or small defects. Scan verification helps confirm the label is ready before shipping.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about FNSKU labels, UPC barcodes, Amazon receiving requirements, case-pack labeling, and FBA prep.

Do I need FNSKU labels if my product already has a UPC?

Yes, Amazon may still require FNSKU labels even when a product already has a UPC. This is especially common for private-label products, used items, and certain restricted categories. Check your listing requirements in Seller Central to confirm the barcode requirements for your products.

Can Amazon relabel my inventory if it arrives with incorrect labels?

No. As of January 2026, Amazon does not provide in-house prep or labeling services. Non-compliant units may be held or rejected during receiving, leaving sellers responsible for correcting labeling issues and any applicable defect fees.

What happens if an FNSKU label doesn’t scan?

Amazon’s receiving process can flag a unit when its FNSKU label cannot be scanned correctly. This may delay that unit and, depending on the issue, can create additional receiving problems for the shipment until the labeling issue is resolved.

Do you label case packs differently than individual units?

Yes. Case-pack labeling can have different requirements from individual unit labeling. Both the individual products and the outer case need the appropriate labels, and certain existing barcodes may need to be covered or removed according to Amazon’s requirements.

Can you combine FNSKU labeling with poly bagging or carton prep?

Yes. We typically handle FNSKU labeling as part of a complete FBA prep workflow rather than as a standalone service. Labeling can be combined with poly bagging, bundling, protective packaging, and carton prep before inventory is forwarded to Amazon.
